A weekend road trip to New Mexico, my home state, carried me to Albuquerque for the 47th annual International Balloon Fiesta. The fun began at Balloon Fiesta Park around 6 a.m. with coffee and two of my favorite people. When we arrived, only one balloon lit the dark sky. We roamed for an hour. At 7 a.m., balloonists fired up their burners and pillars of fire sprung up throughout the park. Shortly after, the air above us crowded with tethered hot air balloons of all shapes and colors. Wind speeds were too high for balloons to take flight, but the view was still well worth the trip. Photos taken October 7, 2018.
